About
This is simulated panel data designed to explore patterns of employee turnover within a technology company referred to as TECHCO, based in India. The primary aim of this dataset is to facilitate management research and advanced HR analytics. It is particularly useful for applying machine learning techniques to uncover non-linear and intricate relationships between various factors that drive employee retention or departure, serving as a tool for pattern discovery in management studies. The data has been simulated based on an original, real-world dataset to maintain employee privacy standards.
Columns
- time: Represents the duration, in months, that the employee has been associated with the company.
- training_score: Indicates the employee's performance score achieved during an intensive three-month on-boarding training course.
- logical_score: The standardised score obtained by the employee on the logical section of a university exit exam.
- verbal_score: The standardised score obtained by the employee on the verbal section of a university exit exam.
- avg_literacy: Reflects the average literacy rate within the employee’s specific home region.
- location_age: The operational age, in years, of the production centre where the employee is assigned.
- performance_score: The employee’s annual performance measurement, quantified on a percentage scale (ranging from 1.25 to 100).
- is_male: A binary variable denoting gender, where 1 signifies male and 0 signifies female.
- emp_id: A unique numerical identifier assigned to each employee within the dataset.
Distribution
The data is provided in a CSV file format titled
simulated_TECHCO_data.csv, with a total size of 2.01 MB. It features 11 variables in total. The dataset contains approximately 34,500 valid records across all key fields. This is a static dataset, and no future updates are expected.Usage
Ideal applications include advanced HR predictive modelling, deep dives into organisational behaviour, and conducting academic research on employee retention drivers. Researchers can utilise this data to implement machine learning models to identify complex interaction effects and non-linear patterns influencing turnover. It serves as a practical resource for learning how to apply ML techniques discussed in related management research papers.
Coverage
The underlying data simulates the employee profile and turnover dynamics of a technology firm operating in India. The records capture employee tenure spanning up to 39 months. Coverage includes demographic details such as gender, regional socio-economic context (average literacy), and organisational specifics (age of location).
