- rank_2020: The city's population rank based on the 2020 census data, ranging from 1 to 100.
- city: The name of the city (100 unique values).
- state: The state in which the city is located. California is the most frequent state represented.
- largest_city_in_state: Boolean indicator showing if the city is the largest in its state (33 true, 67 false).
- state_capital: Boolean indicator showing if the city is the capital of its state (19 true, 81 false).
- federal_capital: Boolean indicator indicating if the city is Washington DC (1 true, 99 false).
- population_2020: The city's population as recorded by the 2020 census, with a mean of approximately 650,000 and a maximum of 8.80 million.
- population_2010: The city's population as recorded by the 2010 census, with a mean of approximately 598,000.
- absolute_change: The numerical difference in population between 2010 and 2020. Changes range from a decline of -74,666 to a growth of 629,000.
- percent_change: The percentage difference in population between 2010 and 2020, with a range of -10.5% to 44.9%.
- land_area_sqmi: The land area measured in square miles.
- land_area_sqkm: The land area measured in square kilometres.
- pop_density_2020_sqmi: Population density measured in square miles.
- pop_density_sqkm: Population density measured in square kilometres, with a maximum density around 11.3 thousand.
- latitude: The geographical latitude of the city's location.
- longitude: The geographical longitude of the city's location.
Distribution
The data is presented in a tabular structure with 16 columns and 100 records, one for each of the top 100 US cities. The data is available in a CSV format, and all fields are 100% valid with no missing values recorded across any column. The average population in 2020 is 650 thousand, and the average density is 1.88 thousand people per square kilometre. This data product will never be updated.
