About
This dataset offers an in-depth look at carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions on a country-by-country basis. It facilitates the analysis of both historical trends and recent developments in global emissions. Sourced from data.gov.in and carefully prepared for accuracy and ease of use, this collection includes annual emissions data for numerous countries, organised by year and region. It allows for cross-country comparisons and regional analysis, providing a time-series view ideal for identifying trends, peaks, and patterns over time. The inclusion of a “Region” column enables users to group countries into specific regions for broader regional analysis.
Columns
- Country: The name of the country for which CO₂ emissions data is recorded. This column enables country-specific analysis and comparison, featuring 190 unique country values.
- Region: The geographical or administrative region to which each country belongs. This categorisation supports regional analysis by grouping countries into broader areas, such as continents or economic zones. Examples include Africa (28% of records) and Asia (25% of records).
- Date: The year in which the CO₂ emissions data was recorded, formatted as a date for compatibility with time-series analysis and to allow temporal trends to be identified. Dates range from 1990 to 2019.
- Kilotons of CO₂: The total amount of carbon dioxide emissions, measured in kilotons, released by each country in the specified year. This provides a quantitative measure of national CO₂ emissions, with values ranging up to 10.7 million kilotons.
- Metric Tons Per Capita: The per capita emissions of CO₂ for each country, expressed in metric tons. This value represents the average carbon dioxide emissions per person, offering insight into individual emissions contributions relative to population size, with values up to 47.6 metric tons per capita.
Distribution
The dataset is provided in CSV format, specifically named
Carbon_(CO2)_Emissions_by_Country.csv
, with a size of 221.7 kB. It contains 5 columns and 5677 records, offering detailed country-level, annual CO₂ emissions data.Usage
This dataset proves highly valuable for environmental researchers, data scientists, and policymakers. It is suitable for anyone interested in studying carbon emissions patterns, analysing climate change impact, or modelling future scenarios of CO₂ emissions. It supports a wide array of analyses, from straightforward visualisations to intricate statistical modelling.
Coverage
The dataset covers global carbon emissions data at a country level, spanning numerous countries across various geographical and administrative regions. The time range for the data is annual, from 1st January 1990 to 1st January 2019. It includes data for 190 unique countries, categorised into regions such as Africa and Asia.
