About
This dataset provides detailed insights into sustainable energy indicators and other influential factors across all countries from 2000 to 2020. It allows users to explore crucial aspects such as electricity access, renewable energy adoption, carbon emissions, energy intensity, financial flows related to clean energy, and economic growth. The data facilitates comparing nations, tracking progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), and gaining a deeper understanding of global energy consumption patterns over two decades.
Columns
The dataset contains 21 columns, each providing specific details:
- Entity: The name of the country or region for which the data is reported.
- Year: The year for which the data is reported, spanning from 2000 to 2020.
- Access to electricity (% of population): The percentage of the population with access to electricity.
- Access to clean fuels for cooking: The percentage of the population with primary reliance on clean fuels for cooking.
- Renewable-electricity-generating-capacity-per-capita: The installed generating capacity of renewable electricity per person, measured in watts.
- Financial flows to developing countries (US $): International finance received for clean energy projects, measured in USD.
- Renewable energy share in the total final energy consumption (%): The percentage share of renewable energy within the total final energy consumption.
- Electricity from fossil fuels (TWh): Electricity generated from fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) in Terawatt-hours.
- Electricity from nuclear (TWh): Electricity generated from nuclear power in Terawatt-hours.
- Electricity from renewables (TWh): Electricity generated from renewable sources (hydro, solar, wind, etc.) in Terawatt-hours.
- Low-carbon electricity (% electricity): The percentage of electricity derived from low-carbon sources, including nuclear and renewables.
- Primary energy consumption per capita (kWh/person): Primary energy consumption per person, in kilowatt-hours.
- Energy intensity level of primary energy (MJ/$2017 PPP GDP): Energy supplied to the economy per unit value of economic output, using 2017 Purchasing Power Parity GDP.
- Value_co2_emissions_kt_by_country: Carbon dioxide emissions in kilotonnes.
- Renewables (% equivalent primary energy): The percentage of equivalent primary energy that is derived from renewable sources for each country.
- gdp_growth: The annual Gross Domestic Product growth rate.
- gdp_per_capita: Gross Domestic Product per person.
- Density (P/Km2): Population density measured in persons per square kilometre.
- Land Area(Km2): The total land area of the country in square kilometres.
- Latitude: The latitude of the country's centroid in decimal degrees.
- Longitude: The longitude of the country's centroid in decimal degrees.
Distribution
This dataset is provided in CSV format, with a file size of 513.82 kB. It contains approximately 3649 records or rows. It is structured to provide yearly data for various countries. Please note that some columns, such as 'Financial flows to developing countries (US $)' and 'Renewables (% equivalent primary energy)', have a notable percentage of missing values (57% and 59% respectively), while others like 'Renewable-electricity-generating-capacity-per-capita' have 26% missing data.
Usage
This dataset is ideal for various applications and use cases, including:
- Energy Consumption Prediction: Predicting future energy usage to aid planning and track SDG 7 progress.
- Carbon Emission Forecasting: Forecasting CO2 emissions to support climate strategies and policy development.
- Energy Access Classification: Categorising regions to inform infrastructure development and understand the role of sustainable energy.
- Sustainable Development Goal Tracking: Monitoring progress towards SDG 7 and evaluating the impact of related policies.
- Energy Equity Analysis: Analysing access, population density, and economic growth for equitable energy distribution.
- Energy Efficiency Optimisation: Identifying areas with high energy intensity for environmental impact reduction efforts.
- Renewable Energy Potential Assessment: Identifying regions suitable for green investments based on their renewable energy capacity.
- Renewable Energy Investment Strategies: Guiding investors towards promising sustainable investment opportunities.
Coverage
The dataset covers all countries globally, with data reported for each year from 2000 to 2020. The scope includes various per-capita metrics and percentages of the population, providing insights into demographic aspects of energy access and consumption. As noted in the Distribution section, some specific data points for certain metrics may have missing values across countries and years.
