Weather data for 30 prominent cities in Sri Lanka is available, covering the period from 1 January 2010, to 1 January 2023. This collection offers a wide array of meteorological parameters, enabling detailed analysis and insights into the climate patterns of different regions across the country. The data was gathered using a Python script from sources including Open-Meteo and simplemaps and has been pre-processed to ensure it is clean and readable.

Columns

  • time: The timestamp for each weather observation.
  • weathercode: A numerical code representing the weather conditions.
  • temperature_2m_max: Maximum 2-metre temperature.
  • temperature_2m_min: Minimum 2-metre temperature.
  • temperature_2m_mean: Mean 2-metre temperature.
  • apparent_temperature_max: Maximum apparent temperature, which accounts for factors like wind chill or heat index.
  • apparent_temperature_min: Minimum apparent temperature.
  • apparent_temperature_mean: Mean apparent temperature.
  • sunrise: The time of sunrise for each day.
  • sunset: The time of sunset for each day.
  • shortwave_radiation_sum: The sum of shortwave radiation received during the observation period.
  • precipitation_sum: The total sum of precipitation, including rainfall and snowfall.
  • rain_sum: The total sum of rainfall.
  • snowfall_sum: The total sum of snowfall.
  • precipitation_hours: The duration of time with measurable precipitation.
  • windspeed_10m_max: Maximum wind speed at 10 metres above ground level.
  • windgusts_10m_max: Maximum wind gusts at 10 metres above ground level.
  • winddirection_10m_dominant: Dominant wind direction at 10 metres above ground level.
  • et0_fao_evapotranspiration: Reference evapotranspiration based on the FAO Penman-Monteith equation.
  • latitude: The latitude of the city.
  • longitude: The longitude of the city.
  • elevation: The elevation of the city.
  • country: The name of the country (Sri Lanka).
  • city: The name of the city for the observation.

Distribution

The data is provided in a single CSV file named SriLanka_Weather_Dataset.csv with a size of 23.79 MB. It contains approximately 147,000 valid records across 24 columns, with no missing values.
