About
This historical series provides detailed mortality data concerning self-inflicted injuries (suicides) in Brazil over a ten-year period. The information is drawn from the DATASUS Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade (SIM). Cases were specifically selected using International Classification of Diseases (CID) codes ranging from X600 to X850, representing external causes of mortality due to self-harm. The resulting data product supports epidemiological analysis, time series modelling, and deep dives into public health trends related to mental health and intentional self-injury across Brazilian states and municipalities.

This dataset is suitable for:
- Quantitative Research: Analysing trends in self-inflicted injury rates across different years and months in Brazil.
- Geographic Analysis: Visualizing suicide occurrences based on state and city data.
- Demographic Segmentation: Examining the distribution of cases based on sex (where 79% are Male), race/colour (50% White, 41% Parda), and civil status.
- Healthcare Policy: Informing public health interventions by identifying common locations of occurrence (61% Domicílio) and correlating events with factors like medical assistance history.
