About
Detailed collection of air quality measurements capture environmental dynamics across Taiwan from 2018 to 2024. Records are generated by monitoring stations located throughout the region, offering hourly granularity on various pollutants and meteorological factors. The files have been pre-processed to pivot hourly measurements into individual parameter columns and integrate datetime information, optimising the structure for immediate time series analysis and cross-sectional environmental studies. This resource supports researchers, policymakers, and the general public in understanding air quality trends, including particulate matter and chemical concentrations.
Columns
- Station Name: Name of the monitoring station (e.g., Nantou, Yonghe).
- City: City where the station is located (e.g., New Taipei City, Kaohsiung City).
- Region: Air quality zone the station belongs to (e.g., Northern Air Quality Zone).
- Date: Record datetime (Hourly timestamps).
- AMB_TEMP: Ambient Temperature.
- CH4: Methane.
- CO: Carbon Monoxide.
- NMHC: Non-Methane Hydrocarbons.
- NO: Nitrogen Monoxide.
- NO2: Nitrogen Dioxide.
- NOx: Nitrogen Oxides.
- O3: Ozone.
- PM10: Particulate Matter (<= 10 micrometres).
- PM2.5: Particulate Matter (<= 2.5 micrometres).
- RAINFALL: Rainfall amount.
- RH: Relative Humidity.
- SO2: Sulfur Dioxide.
- THC: Total Hydrocarbons.
- WD_HR: Wind Direction Hourly.
- WIND_DIREC: Wind Direction.
- WIND_SPEED: Wind Speed.
- WS_HR: Wind Speed Hourly.
Distribution
- Format: CSV (Annual datasets).
- Structure: Hourly records pivoted into columns; missing values are denoted by blank entries. Invalid values are marked with specific codes: '#' (instrument-based), '*' (software-based), 'x' (manually-checked), and 'A' (suspected instrument malfunction).
- Size: The 2018 file alone contains approximately 673,000 valid rows and is roughly 79 MB in size. The full collection spans seven years (2018–2024).
Usage
- Time Series Analysis: Tracking pollutant trends over hourly, daily, or annual cycles.
- Environmental Impact Studies: Correlating weather factors (wind, rain, temperature) with pollution levels.
- Public Health Research: Investigating the relationship between air quality indices (PM2.5, O3) and health outcomes in specific cities.
- Policy Assessment: Evaluating the effectiveness of environmental regulations in different air quality zones.
Coverage
- Geographic: Taiwan-wide, including major cities like New Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Nantou, alongside specific Air Quality Zones (e.g., Northern, Gaoping).
- Time Range: 1 January 2018 to 2024.
- Granularity: Hourly observations.
