The 2021 Forbes Billionaires List that has been significantly modified to ensure consistency in the feature detailing the source of accumulated wealth. The original data contained inconsistencies, mixing specific enterprise names (like Amazon or Microsoft) with general economic sectors (like software or e-commerce). This revision standardises all wealth origins to the economic sector level. For instance, Tesla is reclassified as 'electric vehicles' and LVMH as 'luxury goods'. This approach ensures billionaires operating in the same economic sector are grouped together, which greatly simplifies data aggregation and sectoral analysis. The data was skimmed from forbes.com.
Columns
- Name: The name of the billionaire.
- NetWorth: The net wealth held by the individual, expressed in USD.
- Country: The country of origin for the individual.
- Source: The main origin from which the wealth is derived, standardised to reflect the economic sector (e.g., finance, real estate, software).
- Rank: The individual's position globally in terms of wealth.
- Age: The age of the billionaire.
- Residence: The city and state/country where the billionaire currently lives.
- Citizenship: The stated citizenship of the billionaire.
- Status: The individual’s marital status (e.g., Married).
- Children: The reported number of children.
- Education: Details regarding attended university and major, where available.
- Self_made: A boolean indicator (True/False) concerning the origin of the wealth, detailing if the wealth is self-made.
- geometry: Geographic coordinate data of the current residence.
Distribution
The data is available as a CSV file (
forbes_billionaires_geo_3.csv), approximately 443.76 kB in size. It comprises 13 columns. The dataset contains up to 2,755 valid records across features such as Name, NetWorth, Country, and Source. Some demographic features have notable gaps; for example, 'Children' has 44% missing values, and 'Education' is missing almost half of the entries (49%).Usage
