About
This dataset provides a deep dive into urban air quality in Bangalore, offering a clear tool for understanding air quality status. It transforms complex air quality data from various pollutants into a single, easy-to-understand index value, nomenclature, and colour. Collected over multiple years, it allows for the analysis of long-term air quality trends, seasonal variations, and the impact of diverse factors on air pollution levels in Bangalore. It serves as a valuable resource for those interested in studying and addressing air pollution challenges.
Columns
- Date: The specific date of the air quality measurement. The dataset contains 147 unique dates, with '01-01-2023' being the most common.
- NO2(ug/m3): Nitrogen Dioxide concentration, measured in micrograms per cubic metre. Values range from 16 to 39.8, with a mean of 27.
- SO2(ug/m3): Sulphur Dioxide concentration, measured in micrograms per cubic metre. Values range from 2 to 7.9, with a mean of 4.98.
- CO(mg/m3): Carbon Monoxide concentration, measured in milligrams per cubic metre. Values range from 0.01 to 1, with a mean of 0.59.
- PM10(ug/m3): Particulate Matter 10 concentration, measured in micrograms per cubic metre. Values range from 24.8 to 139, with a mean of 90.
- TEMP(degreeC): Temperature, measured in degrees Celsius. Values range from 24 to 80.6, with a mean of 29.2.
- HR(%): Humidity, expressed as a percentage. Values range from 25.1 to 85.8, with a mean of 53.3.
- WS(m/s): Wind Speed, measured in metres per second. Values range from 0.1 to 280, with a mean of 17.2.
- WD(degree): Wind Direction, measured in degrees. Values range from 0.7 to 283, with a mean of 175.
- SR(W/m2): Solar Radiation, measured in Watts per square metre. Values range from 88.6 to 481, with a mean of 238.
- AQI: Air Quality Index, a single numerical representation of air quality. Values range from 44.2 to 152, with a mean of 98.4.
Distribution
The dataset is typically presented in a CSV file format, exemplified by "AQI_Bangalore_2023_Update_01.csv", which is approximately 10.31 kB in size. It contains 12 columns and 147 valid records. The dataset is expected to be updated monthly, with new AQI data added regularly.
Usage
This dataset is ideal for:
- Analysing long-term air quality trends in Bangalore.
- Identifying and studying seasonal variations in air pollution.
- Investigating the impact of various environmental and anthropogenic factors on air pollution levels.
- Supporting efforts to address air pollution challenges and inform policy decisions.
- Facilitating effective communication of air quality status to the public.
Coverage
The dataset covers air quality monitoring in Bangalore, India, across Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Silence Zones. Air quality is monitored continuously, 24 hours a day, for both primary and secondary pollutants, as well as meteorological parameters. It spans multiple years, enabling a historical perspective on air quality, with specific data for 2023 included.
