Columns

  • State: State code.
  • District: Four-digit district code. The first two digits represent the state code.
  • Tehsil: Seven-digit Tehsil code. The first four digits represent the district code.
  • T_V: Taluk or Village identifier.
  • WC: Four-digit stand-alone code.
  • EB: Four-digit stand-alone code.
  • EBX: Two-digit stand-alone code.
  • C_HOUSE: Type of premises (1= Commercial, 2= Residential, 3= Residential cum Commercial, 9= Others).
  • IN_HH: Number of establishments owned by household members located inside the household.
  • BACT: Broad Activity classification.
  • NIC3: NIC 2008 3-digit code related to the business activity.
  • HLOOM_ACT: Indicates if the activity is Handloom/Handicraft (1= Yes, 0= No).
  • OWN_SHIP_C: Ownership type of the enterprise.
  • SEX: The gender of the owner for proprietary establishments.
  • SG: The social group of the owner (SC, ST, OBC, Other).
  • RELIGION: The religion of the owner, using census religion codes.
  • NOP: Nature of the business operation.
  • SOF: Major source of finance for the enterprise.
  • M_H: Number of hired male employees.
  • F_H: Number of hired female employees.
  • M_NH: Number of non-hired male employees.
  • F_NH: Number of non-hired female employees.
  • TOTAL_WORKER: Total number of persons employed.
  • SECTOR: Sector code for the establishment.
  • DISTRICT: Four-digit district code (duplicate column).

Distribution

The dataset is distributed in separate CSV files for each of the eight metropolitan areas. The data for each metro contains over 20 variables. The total number of rows varies per city, with examples including 261,259 records for Mumbai, 875,308 for Delhi, and 543,081 for Kolkata.

Usage

This data is ideal for economic research, urban development studies, and business analytics. It can be used for classification tasks to predict business sectors, regression models to analyse employment factors, and clustering to identify economic zones within cities.
