About
This data product details bicycle theft incidents and related cellar or floor burglaries officially recorded by the police in Berlin, Germany. The data specifically focuses on cases where a bicycle was the property targeted in the crime. Derived from the Berlin police crime statistics data warehouse, this information is updated daily and provided at the planning area level. It includes figures for the current year up to the preceding day of the update, as well as data for the entire previous year, provided the offense time frame can be limited to a maximum of three days.

Fahrraddiebstahl.csv, which is 5.74 MB in size. It comprises 11 columns and includes approximately 43,100 valid records. The expected frequency of future updates is listed as 'Never'.Usage
This data is highly suitable for detailed urban crime analysis. Potential use cases include:
- Geospatial Analysis: Utilising the LOR code for studying crime distribution and identifying hotspots across Berlin's planning areas.
- Resource Allocation: Supporting police and city planning efforts by highlighting areas requiring increased security measures or patrols.
- Loss Prevention: Analyzing the value (
SCHADENSHOEHE) and type (ART_DES_FAHRRADS) of stolen property to inform targeted prevention strategies for retailers and insurers. - Temporal Pattern Identification: Mapping offenses by start and end dates/hours to reveal daily and seasonal theft patterns.
Coverage
The data is geographically limited to Berlin, Germany. Temporally, it covers the current year, updated up to the previous day, along with all data from the prior full year. A strict condition for inclusion is that the time of the offense must be narrowed down to a period of three days or less. The records span details on property value, specific bicycle types (such as men's or women's bicycles), and location via the 8-digit LOR spatial hierarchy.
