About
Data details the historical exchange rates for most major foreign currencies relative to the US Dollar, updated monthly over a period spanning a decade. It offers a crucial historical context, tracking rates from early 2012 up to late 2022. This financial information is a key indicator for analysing global economic trends, particularly relevant for observing market reactions during recent slower economic periods. The values quantify how much of the foreign currency equals one US Dollar.
Columns
The dataset includes 54 distinct columns. One column is dedicated to recording the observation date. The remaining columns correspond to various international currency codes (including EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, CAD, AUD, CHF, INR, MXN, SGD, ZAR, RUB, and TRY, among many others). Each currency column entry specifies its rate against one US Dollar (USD).
Distribution
The data is structured as a CSV file (
exchange_rate.csv
) and is approximately 1.97 MB in size. It contains 3954 valid records for most currency fields, covering the full observation period. The data product is intended to be updated on a monthly basis. Users should note that those who downloaded the first version of this dataset might need to apply a transpose operation (df.T or df.transpose()) to correctly handle the column and row orientation.Usage
Ideal applications include generating detailed visualisations to track and observe long-term currency trends. Users can conduct Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) to identify currencies and entities that exhibit positive or negative economic correlation. The dataset can also serve as a fundamental input for developing models aimed at predicting future currency fluctuations.
Coverage
This dataset covers global exchange rates, spanning approximately ten years of historical daily data. The time range begins on 1 January 2012 and extends through 28 October 2022, featuring a multitude of major and secondary international currencies.
