About
Offers historical physical and biographical metrics for US Presidents. The data includes key measurements such as height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI), alongside estimated corrected IQ scores derived from academic research. This resource is significant for researchers interested in quantifying and correlating the physical attributes, intellectual capacity estimates, and biographical details of historical American Chief Executives. The expected update frequency for this dataset is never.
Columns
The dataset details 10 primary columns, out of a total of 32, featuring information on 45 unique presidential entries:
- order: The numerical presidential order. Note that Stephen Grover Cleveland occupies both "22 & 24" in this field due to his non-consecutive terms.
- name: The President's full name, noting specific details such as the 'S' in "Harry S Truman" not standing for anything.
- height_cm: Height measured in centimetres (mean value is approximately 180 cm).
- height_in: Height measured in inches.
- weight_kg: Weight measured in kilograms (mean value is approximately 84.9 kg).
- weight_lb: Weight measured in pounds.
- body_mass_index: The calculated Body Mass Index value (mean value is approximately 26.1).
- body_mass_index_range: Categorisation of the BMI, with 'Normal' being the most frequent classification (49%).
- birth_day: The day of the month the President was born.
- birth_month: The numerical month of the year the President was born. Additional columns include astrological sign and corrected IQ estimates.
Distribution
The information is available in a tabular format, contained in a file approximately 8.8 kB in size. It currently covers 45 records, corresponding to 45 unique presidential orders. Statistical metrics, such as quartiles and standard deviations, are available for numerical fields like height and weight.
Usage
This data product is suited for applications requiring quantitative analysis of historical political figures. Ideal uses include studying historical trends in physical health amongst presidents, research into correlations between estimated intelligence and political leadership, and general analysis within political psychology or biographical history fields.
Coverage
The dataset covers historical US Presidents. The data source for the corrected IQ estimates stems from a 2006 study, meaning that corrected IQ information is unavailable for later presidents, specifically Obama, Trump, and Biden. Biographical dates for Stephen Grover Cleveland relate his term start and age to his first presidency, and term end and age to his second presidency.
