Columns

  • Date Rptd: The date the crime was reported.
  • DATE OCC: The date the crime occurred.
  • TIME OCC: The time the crime occurred, expressed in 24-hour military format.
  • AREA/AREA NAME: Numeric identification (1-21) and the corresponding name for the LAPD Geographic Area or Patrol Division (e.g., 77th Street Division).
  • Rpt Dist No: A four-digit code identifying the sub-area within a Geographic Area.
  • Crm Cd / Crm Cd Desc: The code and definition of the crime committed.
  • Mocodes: Codes associated with the suspect’s Modus Operandi (activities during the crime).
  • Vict Age / Vict Sex / Vict Descent: The victim's age, sex (F, M, X), and descent code (e.g., H for Hispanic/Latin/Mexican, W for White).
  • Premis Cd / Premis Desc: The code and definition of the premise type where the crime occurred (e.g., STREET, SINGLE FAMILY DWELLING).
  • Weapon Used Cd / Weapon Desc: The code and description of the weapon utilized, if any.
  • Status / Status Desc: The status of the case, defaulting to IC (Invest Cont).
  • Crm Cd 1, 2, 3, 4: The primary crime code and up to three less serious additional crime codes.
  • LOCATION / Cross Street: The street address (rounded) and cross street.
  • LAT / LON: Latitude and Longitude coordinates.

Distribution

This dataset is tabular, typically provided in CSV format. It currently comprises over 2.12 million records across 28 distinct columns, with a total file size of approximately 535.66 MB. Update frequency is expected to be quarterly. Eleven percent of records contain missing information for the Mocodes field, and sixty-six percent of records lack defined weapon codes.
