This product is a specially cleaned and organized version of the raw crime incident records, spanning more than two decades, designed specifically to facilitate data visualization and interactive dashboard creation. The central purpose is to enable users to view key metrics for specific types of crimes within any given year through the application of filters and calculations. The data is kept current, updating frequently to display incidents that took place up to seven days prior to the present date, and may also update past records as new information is uncovered.

date: The exact date the crime incident occurred.primary_type: The main classification of the crime (e.g., BATTERY, THEFT). Distribution
The raw dataset initially contained over 7.5 million rows of incident data. The preparation involved several rigorous cleaning steps, including the removal of approximately 85,000 null records (around 1.3% of the total, predominantly missing latitude and longitude data). Geographical outliers, such as records incorrectly pointing outside of Illinois, were also deleted to ensure data integrity for mapping. The cleaned data is organized into subsets suitable for immediate use in visualization tools like Tableau.
