About

The National Nutrition Survey (CNNS), conducted in India between 2016 and 2018, represents a significant global effort in micronutrient assessment. This pivotal survey employed advanced methods to evaluate anaemia, micronutrient deficiencies, and biomarkers for non-communicable diseases across India for the first time. As the first nationally representative nutrition survey focusing on children and adolescents from birth to 19 years, it aimed to gather robust data on both undernutrition and overweight/obesity. The findings offer national and state-level insights into nutritional status and micronutrient deficiencies in children and adolescents, alongside estimates for non-communicable disease biomarkers in the 5-19 age group. Its purpose was to determine malnutrition prevalence and identify key factors influencing India's nutrition transition, thereby guiding national programmes and policy adjustments.
