About

This dataset captures responses from a public survey of students, offering insights into the impact of COVID-19 on their educational stress levels. It was created to enable insightful analysis, providing a valuable resource for understanding student experiences during the pandemic. The raw survey responses have been processed to ensure ease of use, including renaming column headings and options, and filtering out non-student responses as well as responses from individuals aged 22 or older.

Columns

  • Category: Indicates the student's current educational situation, such as SchoolCollegeTraining or Homeschool.
  • Country: The student's current country of residence.
  • State: The student's current state of residence, if located in the US.

Distribution

The dataset is provided as a CSV file, named responses.csv, with a size of 3.02 kB. Each row within the file corresponds to a single survey response, and it contains 15 distinct columns. There are 40 valid responses for most columns, such as 'Category', 'Country', 'Age', and stress-related metrics. However, some columns have fewer valid entries, for instance, 'State' has 28 valid responses and 'Gender' has 37 valid responses due to missing values. The student ages in the dataset span from 13 to 22 years, with an average age of 16.4.

Usage

This dataset is ideal for:
  • Analysing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student stress levels and educational experiences.
  • Researching shifts in learning environments (physical, virtual, hybrid) both before and during the pandemic.
  • Investigating changes in student stress levels concerning classwork and homework.
  • Examining the correlation between the pandemic and changes in student's family and friend relationships.
  • Developing support programmes or educational strategies based on student well-being data.

Coverage

The dataset focuses on students aged between 13 and 21 years, as responses from individuals aged 22 or older were removed. Geographically, it includes students from various countries, with a significant proportion from the US (70%) and GB (15%), along with responses from six other nations. For students residing in the US, state-specific data is also available. The data provides insights into student situations and feelings both before the onset of the pandemic and during the pandemic. The survey from which this data originates is still actively collecting responses, with an expected update frequency of daily.
