Columns
- Inspection ID: A unique identifier for each specific inspection record.
- DBA Name: The legal ‘Doing Business As’ name of the establishment.
- AKA Name: The 'Also Known As' name, which is how the public commonly refers to the establishment.
- License #: The unique license number assigned by the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection.
- Facility Type: Describes the establishment category (e.g., Restaurant, Grocery Store, Bakery, Banquet Hall, Hospital, School, Tavern, etc.).
- Risk: Categorisation of the establishment's risk level to public health, where Risk 1 is the highest and Risk 3 is the lowest, determining inspection frequency.
- Address: The full street address of the facility.
- City: The city where the facility is located (primarily CHICAGO).
- State: The state where the facility is located (primarily IL).
- Zip: The postal code of the facility.
- Inspection Date: The date when the inspection was carried out. Establishments may have multiple inspection dates.
- Inspection Type: The reason for the inspection, which may include canvass (the most common type), license requirement, complaint, consultation, suspect food poisoning, or task-force inspection. Re-inspections are also noted.
- Results: The outcome of the inspection, which can be Pass (no critical or serious violations), Pass with conditions (violations corrected during the inspection), or Fail (critical or serious violations not corrected during the inspection). Records also include establishments found to be out of business or not located.
- Violations: Notes detailing one or more of 45 distinct violation types, including the required standard and a specific description of the findings leading to the violation.
- Latitude: The geographical latitude coordinate of the facility.
- Longitude: The geographical longitude coordinate of the facility.
- Location: A combined field showing both latitude and longitude coordinates.
Distribution
The information covers over 220 thousand rows of inspection records. The data is typically supplied in a CSV format, with a file size of approximately 250.75 MB. The total count of valid records is 221 thousand. Restaurants make up the largest proportion of facilities, accounting for 67% of the total, followed by Grocery Stores at 13%. Risk 1 (High risk) establishments constitute 72% of the records.
