Sentinel Short-Range Face Image Dataset

This dataset contains short-range face images captured within 0.5 meters of a vehicle, generated using high-fidelity synthetic simulation environments. It is collected through a dual-camera system combining fisheye and pinhole cameras, capturing male and female subjects with and without masks, across multiple face orientations including frontal, side, and top-down views. The dataset includes both daytime natural light and nighttime infrared capture scenarios to replicate real-world sentinel mode operation.

The dataset is intended for sentinel-mode face recognition, access control face verification, and vehicle exterior visitor detection systems. It supports tasks such as identity verification in close-range camera setups, mask compliance detection, and multi-angle facial recognition in varied lighting environments.

All images are at a resolution of 1200×824 and include a total of approximately 12,000 samples (7,000 non-mask faces and 5,000 masked faces). Annotations are provided in bounding box format (VOC XML and JSON), including both face localization and mask status classification. Label categories cover gender, mask/no-mask, and multiple orientation combinations to ensure comprehensive coverage for robust model training.

The synthetic generation process incorporates a range of environmental conditions, subject identities, clothing styles, and facial expressions, alongside camera angle variation to simulate realistic approach scenarios to a vehicle. Both RGB captures and infrared nighttime captures are represented, ensuring the dataset is suitable for deployment in diverse real-world security and monitoring applications.

By combining photorealistic rendering, human annotation, and diverse camera perspectives, this dataset supports the development of high-accuracy face recognition systems, enhances mask detection performance, and improves short-range biometric verification in intelligent transportation and security systems.
