Columns
- id: The unique identifier for the tweet.
- user_name: The publicly displayed name of the Twitter account that posted the message.
- user_location: The location information provided by the user. Note that a quarter of records are missing this detail.
- user_description: The self-written biography text from the user's profile.
- user_created: The date the associated Twitter account was established.
- user_followers: The total number of users following the account.
- user_friends: The total number of accounts the user is following.
- user_favourites: The tally of tweets the user has marked as a favourite.
- user_verified: A boolean value indicating if the user account holds a verification badge (all accounts in this sample are false).
- date: The timestamp indicating when the tweet was posted.
- text: The full content of the tweet message itself.
- hashtags: A list of hashtags included within the tweet text (approximately 32% of records are missing this information).
- source: The application or method used by the user to publish the tweet (e.g., Twitter for Android, Twitter Web App).
- retweets: The final count of retweets received by the post.
- favorites: The final count of favourites received by the post.
- is_retweet: A boolean value indicating if the post is a retweet (all records in this sample are false).
Distribution
The data is available in a standard CSV file format, named
flat_earth_tweets.csv. The file size is approximately 296.59 kB. The structure consists of 16 distinct columns and includes 752 valid records of Twitter activity.Usage
This resource is ideal for various analytical applications. Users can leverage the text corpus to train models for advanced text data analysis, conduct sentiment analysis to measure prevailing attitudes toward the conspiracy theory, and perform topic modelling to identify key themes and narratives within the discussions.
Coverage
The data covers activity collected over a short period, specifically 10 December 2021 to 18 December 2021. While the collection period for the tweets is narrow, the user accounts involved have creation dates spanning a much longer time frame, from February 2007 up to December 2021. Geographic scope is limited to users who engage with the #FlatEarth hashtag, though explicit user location data is often missing or unavailable. No verified user accounts are present in this sample.
