About
This dataset is designed for the calculation of individual carbon footprints, drawing upon a range of daily, weekly, and monthly lifestyle habits. The data has been synthetically generated, with values meticulously calculated based on weightings derived from various studies and platforms that estimate carbon emissions, aiming to reflect real-world scenarios. It has been notably utilised in a Bootcamp final project for developing a carbon footprint calculator.
Columns
The dataset contains 20 distinct columns, each detailing a specific aspect of an individual's habits or characteristics:
- Body Type: Describes the individual's body type.
- Sex: Indicates the individual's gender.
- Diet: Specifies the individual's dietary preference.
- How Often Shower: Records the frequency of showering.
- Heating Energy Source: Details the energy source used for residential heating.
- Transport: States the individual's preferred mode of transportation.
- Vehicle Type: Identifies the fuel type of the individual's vehicle.
- Social Activity: Notes the frequency of participation in social activities.
- Monthly Grocery Bill: Represents the monthly expenditure on groceries, in dollars.
- Frequency of Traveling by Air: Records how often the individual used aircraft in the last month.
- Vehicle Monthly Distance Km: The total kilometres travelled by vehicle in the last month.
- Waste Bag Size: The size of the garbage bag used.
- Waste Bag Weekly Count: The number of garbage bags disposed of in the last week.
- How Long TV PC Daily Hour: The daily time spent in front of a television or PC.
- How Many New Clothes Monthly: The number of new clothes purchased each month.
- How Long Internet Daily Hour: The daily time spent using the Internet.
- Energy efficiency: Indicates the individual's concern for purchasing energy-efficient devices.
- Recycling: Lists the types of waste the individual recycles.
- Cooking_With: Describes the devices used for cooking.
- CarbonEmission: The dependent variable, representing the total calculated carbon emissions.
Distribution
The dataset is provided as a CSV file, named "Carbon Emission.csv", with a file size of 1.62 MB. It comprises 10,000 records (rows), with most columns having complete valid entries. One column, 'Vehicle Type', has approximately 33% valid entries, with the remainder missing, indicating potential for specific analysis or handling of missing data.
Usage
This dataset is ideal for:
- Developing individual carbon footprint calculators.
- Conducting regression analysis to understand the factors influencing carbon emissions.
- Environmental impact studies and research.
- Educational purposes, particularly in data science bootcamps and projects focused on sustainability.
- Modelling the relationship between daily habits and environmental impact.
Coverage
The dataset's scope is demographic, covering various individual characteristics such as body type, gender, diet, and a wide array of daily, weekly, and monthly habits related to consumption, travel, and energy use. While it details habits on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, no specific geographic or precise time range is specified for the data collection, as it is synthetically generated.
