What's changing

Opendatabay has grown significantly over the past year, with over 20,000 dataset downloads, nearly 6,000 data products, and almost 30,000 registered users. We are now entering a new phase in our journey.

To keep the platform reliable, fair, and sustainable for both users and data providers, we are introducing subscription plans starting 1 January 2026.

Users who need more than one free download, more interactions with our AI matching tool and more sample previews will be required to subscribe to a paid plan.

Subscription plans

Subscription plans provide additional monthly allowances and access to advanced features. Plans reset on a monthly billing cycle and are subject to fair usage limits.

• Free Tier (default) - Limited features.

  All users start on the Free Tier, which includes 1 free dataset download, access to basic platform features, and limited ability to browse and preview datasets.

• Explorer Tier - Increased monthly downloads and platform features.

  The perfect starting point for learners, students, and data enthusiasts. Includes more monthly downloads, enhanced platform features, and the ability to explore real-world datasets to build skills and experiment.

• Professional Tier (coming soon) - Higher limits / unlimited access for professionals.

  Designed for professional analysts, researchers, and companies. Offers higher download limits, access to premium datasets, and tools to accelerate data-driven projects.

• Enterprise Tier (coming soon) - Custom plans for organizations.

  Tailored for corporations, institutions, and data sellers, the Enterprise plan provides unlimited access on Opendatabay, including custom support, enterprise-grade tools, and discounted pricing

Limits on monthly usage and monthly downloads

All subscription plans include defined monthly limits.

Unused limits such as downloads do not roll over to the next billing period unless explicitly stated in a plan.

Cancellation and access

You may cancel your subscription at any time. If you cancel, you will retain access to any remaining downloads until the end of the current billing period.

After the billing period ends, access will revert to the Free Tier.

If you cancel within the first 14 days and have not made any downloads, you will receive a full refund for the current month. If you have made downloads, the full charge for the current month will apply, and your subscription will stop at the end of the billing period. This follows your UK legal right to change your mind within 14 days, although this right is generally lost once you start downloading content.

Premium (Paid) Dataset Downloads

As of now, paid datasets on Opendatabay, also referred to as "Premium" datasets by data providers, do not require an active subscription. You can purchase and download Premium datasets individually, without subscribing to a plan.

However, starting later in 2026, downloading Premium datasets may require an active subscription, depending on platform policies and demand from users.

Updates to Terms

Opendatabay reserves the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of any modifications to these terms.
