Columns

  • anime_id: MyAnimeList Anime ID.
  • title: The title of the anime in either Rōmaji or English.
  • type: The media type of the anime (e.g., TV series, movie).
  • score: The MyAnimeList Weighted Score for the anime.
  • scored_by: The number of users who have scored this anime.
  • status: The current airing status, such as 'finished_airing' or 'not_yet_aired'.
  • episodes: The total number of episodes for the anime.
  • start_date: The date when the anime began airing.
  • end_date: The date when the anime finished airing.
  • source: The original material from which the anime was adapted (e.g., original, manga).
  • members: The number of MyAnimeList users who have this anime on their list.
  • favorites: The count of users who have marked this anime as a favourite.
  • episode_duration: The average duration of a single episode.
  • total_duration: The aggregate duration of the anime.
  • rating: The audience rating for the anime (e.g., PG-13, G).
  • sfw: A boolean indicating whether the content is Safe For Work or is R18+.
  • approved: A boolean indicating if the anime entry is approved or 'pending approval'.
  • created_at: The creation date of the anime entry on MyAnimeList.
  • updated_at: The latest update date of the anime entry on MyAnimeList.
  • start_year: The start year for seasonal anime.
  • start_season: The start season for seasonal anime (e.g., fall, spring).
  • real_start_date: The actual start date, for entries that only had year or year-month.
  • real_end_date: The actual end date, for entries that only had year or year-month.
  • broadcast_day: The day of the week for weekly anime broadcasts in Japan.
  • broadcast_time: The Japanese broadcast time for weekly anime.
  • genres: A list of genres associated with the anime.
  • themes: A list of themes present in the anime.
  • demographics: A list of target demographics for the anime (e.g., Kids).
  • studios: A list of animation studios involved in the production.
  • producers: A list of producers for the anime.
  • licensors: A list of licensors for the anime.
  • synopsis: A brief description or summary of the anime.
  • background: Additional information or context about the anime.
  • main_picture: The URL for the main picture of the anime on MyAnimeList.
  • url: The MyAnimeList URL for the anime entry.
  • trailer_url: The URL for the anime's trailer.
  • title_english: The English title of the anime.
  • title_japanese: The Japanese title of the anime.
  • title_synonyms: A list of alternative or synonymous titles for the anime.

Distribution

The dataset is provided in CSV format, with the anime.csv file having a size of 21.05 MB. It includes data for 24,165 anime titles and 67,273 manga titles. The anime dataset alone contains approximately 25,000 records across 39 columns. The data is structured for fast scraping and is updated weekly.

Coverage

The dataset covers anime and manga entries from MyAnimeList, with airing dates ranging from 1st January 1917 to 1st July 2025 for anime. MyAnimeList entries were created between 30th June 2005 and 7th August 2023, with updates continuing until 7th August 2023. Demographic data is available via the 'demographics' and 'rating' columns, indicating audience ratings like PG-13 or G, and specific groups like 'Kids'. While the main data is sourced from the official MAL API for the latest information, some attributes such as producers, licensors, background details, and trailer URLs are supplemented from the Jikan API. It should be noted that the Jikan API may contain entries that have since been deleted from MAL.
