About
This dataset offers a unique insight into the daily mobile activity characteristics of rural residents in Chengdu, China. Derived from China Unicom mobile phone location data captured between 12th and 18th April 2017, it quantifies various aspects of daily movements and activities. The data is organised into 1000m by 1000m grids across the city, providing details on activity diversity, frequency, and standard distances for work and non-work related travel. It also includes geographical context such as grid centroid coordinates, distance to the city centre, and average slope, alongside the proportion of urban workers. To safeguard privacy, information from grids with fewer than ten identified residents has been omitted.
Columns
- grid_centroid_X: The longitude (X-coordinate) of the grid's central point.
- grid_centroid_Y: The latitude (Y-coordinate) of the grid's central point.
- Diversity: Represents the number of distinct destination grids visited by residents originating from a particular grid.
- Number: Indicates the average count of activities or movements undertaken by residents within a specific grid.
- Standard_distance_nonwork: The standard distance covered for non-work-related activities by residents of a grid.
- Standard_distance_nwork: The standard distance covered for work-related activities by residents of a grid.
- Distance_to_central_city: The measured distance from the grid to the central area of Chengdu city.
- Slope: The average slope value for the terrain within the grid.
- Work_in_urban_areas: The percentage of residents in a grid who commute to work in urban areas.
Distribution
This dataset is provided in a CSV format and has a file size of 1.4 MB. It is structured to represent characteristics across 14,856 geographical grids, each spanning an area of 1000m by 1000m. The dataset contains 10 columns detailing various mobile activity metrics and geographical attributes. Specific numbers for rows or records beyond the grid count are not available.
Usage
This dataset is ideal for urban planning studies, transportation analysis, and human mobility research. It can be utilised to understand daily activity patterns of rural populations, analyse spatial interactions within and around Chengdu, and assess the impact of geographical features on resident movements. Researchers can also explore the dynamics of rural-urban linkages and the distribution of work and non-work activities.
Coverage
The dataset's geographic scope is limited to the rural areas of Chengdu, China. The data was collected over a specific period, from 12th to 18th April 2017. It focuses exclusively on the characteristics of rural residents' mobile activities. For privacy considerations, data for grids where fewer than ten residents were identified has been intentionally omitted.
