About
This dataset offers valuable insights into global air quality by city and coordinates. It aims to help researchers and policymakers make informed decisions on addressing air pollution. It merges information on cities, their latitude and longitude, and air pollution levels from various countries. The creation of this dataset was inspired by the growing concern over the impact of air pollution on health and the environment, striving to contribute to efforts for a cleaner, healthier world.
Columns
- Country: The name of the country.
- City: The name of the city, with over 14,000 unique values.
- AQI Value: The overall Air Quality Index value, ranging from 7 to 500, with an average of 63.
- AQI Category: The category corresponding to the AQI Value (e.g., Good, Moderate).
- CO AQI Value: Carbon Monoxide (CO) Air Quality Index value, typically ranging from 0 to 133, with an average of 1.34. CO is a colourless, odourless gas from incomplete fossil fuel burning, toxic at high levels causing headaches, dizziness, and nausea.
- CO AQI Category: The category for Carbon Monoxide levels, predominantly "Good".
- Ozone AQI Value: Ozone Air Quality Index value, typically ranging from 0 to 222, with an average of 31.8. Ozone forms in the atmosphere from sunlight and other pollutants; high levels are harmful, especially for those with respiratory issues.
- Ozone AQI Category: The category for Ozone levels (e.g., Good, Moderate).
- NO2 AQI Value: Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) Air Quality Index value, typically ranging from 0 to 91, with an average of 3.82.
- NO2 AQI Category: The category for Nitrogen Dioxide levels, predominantly "Good".
- PM2.5 AQI Value: Fine particulate matter less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter (PM2.5) value, typically ranging from 0 to 500, with an average of 59.8. PM2.5 are tiny particles harmful when inhaled at high concentrations.
- PM2.5 AQI Category: The category for PM2.5 levels (e.g., Good, Moderate).
- lat: The latitude coordinate of the city, ranging from -54.8 to 70.8.
- lng: The longitude coordinate of the city, ranging from -172 to 178.
Distribution
This dataset is provided as a CSV file named 'AQI and Lat Long of Countries.csv', with a file size of 1.41 MB. It contains 14 columns. The dataset comprises over 16,700 records, with nearly all data points validated across most columns. A small percentage (2%) of country names are missing. Updates are expected quarterly.
Usage
This dataset is ideal for:
- Analysing and comparing air quality indices across various cities and countries globally.
- Informing research into regional air pollution patterns.
- Supporting policymakers in developing strategies to address air pollution.
- Contributing to efforts aimed at improving environmental health and air quality worldwide.
Coverage
The dataset covers cities across numerous countries worldwide, providing geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) alongside air quality data. It includes data from 174 unique countries, with significant representation from the United States of America and Germany. No specific time range or demographic scope is detailed in the available information.
