About
Sea level serves as the fundamental baseline for measuring elevation and depth on Earth. While the ocean is a single, continuous body of water that tends to seek a uniform level, its surface is not perfectly flat. Factors such as winds, currents, river discharges, and variations in gravity and temperature cause fluctuations in the sea surface. This dataset provides measurements of the global mean sea level (GMSL) over more than a decade, from 1993 to 2015, and is suitable for beginner to intermediate users interested in Earth Science.
Columns
- Time: This column records the date of the measurement, formatted as DateTime. It covers the period from 15 January 1993 to 15 February 2015.
- GMSL: This column contains the Global Mean Sea Level measurement for the corresponding date.
Distribution
The dataset is distributed in a single tabular CSV file named
csiro_alt_gmsl_mo_2015.csv
, with a size of 4.5 kB. It contains 266 valid records and two columns, with no missing or mismatched data. The dataset is not expected to be updated.Usage
Ideal applications for this dataset include environmental research, climate change analysis, and educational projects. Researchers can use it to study long-term trends in sea level rise. Data scientists and students can employ it for time-series analysis, trend modelling, and data visualisation exercises.
Coverage
The data provides global coverage, representing the mean sea level for the entire Earth. The temporal coverage spans from 15 January 1993 to 15 February 2015.
