As of March 2022, there are 1,000 such companies worldwide. Notable former unicorns include well-known companies like Airbnb, Facebook, and Google. The dataset also references variants such as 'decacorns' (valued over $10 billion) and 'hectocorns' (valued over $100 billion).
Columns
- Company: The name of the unicorn company. There are 1,035 unique company names.
- Valuation ($B): The valuation of the company in billions of US dollars. $1 billion is the most common valuation represented.
- Date Joined: The specific date the company achieved unicorn status. Dates range from 20th July 2007 to 28th February 2022.
- Country: The country where the unicorn company is headquartered. The United States accounts for 52% of companies, followed by China at 16%, with 46 unique countries represented.
- City: The city where the unicorn company is headquartered. San Francisco is the most frequent city at 14%, followed by New York at 9%, with 256 unique cities listed.
- Industry: The primary industry sector of the company. Fintech is the largest sector at 20%, with Internet software & services at 19%, covering 33 unique industries.
- Select Investors: A list of prominent investors in the company.
- Founded Year: The year the company was established. 2015 is the most common founding year.
- Total Raised: The total amount of funding the company has raised.
- Financial Stage: The current financial stage of the company (e.g., acquired).
- Investors Count: The number of investors involved with the company.
- Deal Terms: Information regarding deal terms, frequently represented by numerical values.
- Portfolio Exits: Indicates if the company has had any portfolio exits.
