About

This dataset provides detailed sales data from Amazon, offering an insightful look at various product categories and their performance over time. It includes information on sales figures, order details, product categories, and customer demographics. This simulated collection of Amazon sales data is intended for educational and analytical purposes, making it ideal for practising data manipulation, statistical analysis, and predictive modelling. It is particularly useful for basic Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) on Amazon sales.

Columns

  • Order ID: A unique identifier for each order placed on Amazon, used for tracking individual orders and linking related records.
  • Dates: The date when the order was placed, crucial for analysing sales trends over time and identifying seasonal patterns.
  • Status: The current status of the order (e.g., Shipped, Delivered, Pending), providing insight into the order fulfilment process and monitoring efficiency.
  • Fulfillment: Indicates the method used to fulfil the order (e.g., Fulfilled by Amazon, Fulfilled by Seller), aiding in the analysis of different fulfilment methods and their impact on customer satisfaction.
  • Sales Channel: The channel through which the sale was made (e.g., Amazon Website, Mobile App), useful for evaluating the effectiveness of different sales channels and understanding customer preferences.
  • Category: The product category to which the purchased item belongs (e.g., Electronics, Clothing, Home Goods), assisting in analysing sales performance across various product categories.
  • Ship Service Level: The shipping service level selected for the order (e.g., Standard Shipping, Two-Day Shipping), helping to assess the impact of shipping options on delivery times and customer satisfaction.
  • Size: The size of the product ordered (e.g., Small, Medium, Large), relevant for analysing sales performance based on product size and understanding inventory requirements.
  • Carrier Status: The status of the shipment with the carrier (e.g., In Transit, Delivered, Returned), providing insights into the shipping process and helping to monitor delivery performance and handle returns.
  • index: A sequential index that uniquely identifies each row in the dataset, used for referencing and organising records within the dataset.
  • Qty: This column represents the quantity of items ordered in a transaction.
  • currency: This column indicates the currency used for the transaction, primarily Indian Rupees (INR).
  • Amount: This column denotes the monetary value of the sales transaction.
  • ship-city: This column specifies the city where the order was shipped.
  • ship-state: This column indicates the state where the order was shipped.
  • ship-postal-code: This column holds the postal code for the shipping address.
  • ship-country: This column shows the country where the order was shipped, which is consistently India (IN).
  • B2B: This is a boolean field that indicates whether the sale was a Business-to-Business transaction.
  • fulfilled-by: This column describes the method by which the order was fulfilled, such as 'Easy Ship'.
  • New: This column contains no valid data and is entirely missing across all records.
  • PendingS: This column also contains no valid data and is entirely missing across all records.

Distribution

The dataset is available as a CSV file, named "Amazon Sale Report.csv", and is approximately 19.06 MB in size. It comprises around 129,000 records, distributed across 21 columns. While the dataset is largely complete, some columns exhibit missing values: 'currency' and 'Amount' have 6% missing data, certain shipping details (city, state, postal code, country) have 35 missing records, and 'fulfilled-by' is 70% missing. Notably, the 'New' and 'PendingS' columns are entirely absent of data.

Usage

This dataset is well-suited for several applications:
  • Sales Analysis: Examining trends over time, identifying peak sales periods, and analysing performance by product category.
  • Customer Insights: Exploring purchasing behaviour and preferences, even though explicit demographic fields are not detailed.
  • Inventory Management: Assessing product performance to assist in inventory planning and supply chain optimisation.
  • Marketing Strategies: Developing targeted campaigns informed by identified sales trends and customer profiles.
  • Data Science Practice: Providing an excellent resource for practising data manipulation, statistical analysis, and predictive modelling techniques.

Coverage

The data spans from 31st March 2022 to 29th June 2022. Geographically, sales are primarily routed through the Amazon.in channel and shipped within India (IN). Key states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka, and cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad, are frequently represented in the shipping addresses. While the dataset contributes to customer insights, direct demographic information is not available. As mentioned under 'Distribution', certain data points have varying levels of availability.
