This curated collection offers deep insight into the metadata, user ratings, popularity, and characteristics of anime titles available on MyAnimeList. It serves as a stable snapshot of the Jikan API's cached data, offering essential data points for statistical analysis, popularity tracking, and media studies. A related dataset is anticipated in the future, providing more complex relational data between characters, staff, anime, and manga, updated on a weekly basis, making this current version the beautifully simple, preliminary offering focused purely on Jikan data.
Columns
The Anime data file (
anime.csv) features 34 fields, including crucial descriptive and statistical metrics:- mal_id: The unique MyAnimeList Anime ID.
- title: The primary title, often in Rōmaji or English.
- type: Categorisation of the anime media (e.g., TV, Movie).
- score: The MAL Weighted Score assigned to the title (Mean of 6.46 for valid entries).
- scored_by: The total count of users who contributed a score to the anime.
- status: The current airing status (e.g., Finished Airing, which accounts for 95% of records).
- episodes: The total number of episodes, which can range significantly up to 3057.
- aired_from / aired_to: The start and end dates of the anime's airing period.
- source: The original material adapted for the anime (e.g., Original, Manga).
- members: The total number of users who have this anime listed in their profiles (Mean of 33.5k).
- favorites: The count of users who have favourited the anime.
- rating: The audience rating (e.g., PG-13 - Teens 13 or older, G - All Ages).
- nsfw: A boolean flag indicating R18+ content (True in 6% of records).
- genres / themes / demographics / studios / producers / licensors: Lists detailing classification, creative team, and distribution rights.
- synopsis: A brief description of the anime.
- url: The direct MyAnimeList link for the title.
Distribution
The primary file for anime metadata,
anime.csv, is approximately 19.2 MB. It contains 24,640 anime records, with 34 columns of information. This product is usually delivered in CSV format. The scrape captured records relating to 146,049 characters, 66,371 mangas, and 16,943 people in total.Usage
