Reflects incidents of crime reported in the City of Los Angeles between 2020 and 2024. This information is transcribed from original paper-based crime reports. Due to this transcription process, some inaccuracies may be present in the data. To protect privacy, addresses are approximated to the nearest hundred block, and some location fields with missing data are marked with coordinates of (0°, 0°).

Columns

  • DR_NO: Division of Records Number, serving as the official file number for the incident.
  • Date Rptd: The date the crime was reported, in MM/DD/YYYY format.
  • DATE OCC: The date the crime occurred, in MM/DD/YYYY format.
  • TIME OCC: The time the crime occurred, represented in 24-hour military time.
  • AREA: A numerical code (1-21) representing one of the 21 LAPD Geographic Areas or Community Police Stations.
  • AREA NAME: The name designation for the Geographic Area, which often references a local landmark or community.
  • Rpt Dist No: A four-digit code for the sub-area within a Geographic Area where the crime occurred.
  • Part 1-2: A classification code for the crime.
  • Crm Cd: A numerical code indicating the specific crime committed.
  • Crm Cd Desc: The definition or description of the crime code.
  • Mocodes: Modus Operandi codes describing activities associated with the suspect during the crime.
  • Vict Age: The age of the victim.
  • Vict Sex: The sex of the victim (F: Female, M: Male, X: Unknown, H: Unavailable).
  • Vict Descent: A descent code for the victim (e.g., A: Other Asian, B: Black, H: Hispanic/Latin/Mexican, W: White).
  • Premis Cd: A code indicating the type of location or structure where the crime happened.
  • Premis Desc: The definition of the premise code.
  • Weapon Used Cd: A code for the type of weapon used in the commission of the crime.
  • Weapon Desc: The definition of the weapon code.
  • Status: The current status of the case (e.g., IC for Invest Cont).
  • Status Desc: The definition of the status code.
  • Crm Cd 1: The primary and most serious crime code associated with the incident.
  • Crm Cd 2: A code for a secondary, less serious offence, if applicable.
  • Crm Cd 3: A code for a third, less serious offence, if applicable.
  • Crm Cd 4: A code for a fourth, less serious offence, if applicable.
  • LOCATION: The street address of the incident, rounded to the nearest hundred block.
  • Cross Street: The cross street nearest to the incident's location.
  • LAT: The latitude coordinate of the incident.
  • LON: The longitude coordinate of the incident.

Distribution

  • Format: The data is available in a single CSV file named data2.csv.
  • Size: The file size is approximately 178.55 MB.
  • Structure: The dataset contains 28 columns. The total number of records is approximately 699,000. It is not expected to be updated.
