About
Analysing global geographic and socioeconomic landscapes requires a detailed outlook on every nation to understand the complex interplay between demographics, wealth, and territory. These records consolidate a vast array of metrics for 250 countries, bridging the gap found in limited datasets that focus solely on recent health crises. By merging API-derived data with scraped details from various web sources, the collection offers a rich foundation for machine learning algorithms to identify patterns in economic development, wealth distribution, and international trade across the globe.
Columns
- name: The common name of the country.
- region: The continent where the country is located, such as Africa or the Americas.
- subregion: The specific regional division within a continent, such as the Caribbean.
- population: The total number of inhabitants residing in the country.
- latlng: Geographic coordinates provided in a latitude and longitude format.
- area: The total surface area of the country in square units.
- gini: An index measuring the distribution of wealth and income inequality within a nation.
- timezones: The specific time zones observed within the country's territory.
- numericCode: The standardised numerical identifier for the country.

- infantMortalityRate: The number of infant deaths per 1,000 live births.
- portsAndHarbors: Textual descriptions of major maritime entry points.
Distribution
The information is delivered across three distinct data frames: an API-sourced file (
Country_data (API).csv), a scraped data file, and a combined version (Country_data (Merged).csv). The API file is approximately 24.92 kB in size. The merged resource contains 250 rows representing every country in the world, structured across 47 unique columns. This structure includes 10 attributes from the API and 36 additional attributes from scraped sources, with the country name serving as the common key.Usage
This resource is ideal for training predictive models to estimate socioeconomic trends or life expectancy based on diverse factors like the Gini index and trade volume. It is well-suited for academic research into global wealth inequality and demographic shifts. Additionally, analysts can use the coordinate and timezone data for creating international mapping applications. The textual columns, such as those detailing ports and trading partners, provide an opportunity to practice natural language processing and data extraction techniques to quantify economic infrastructure.
Coverage
The scope of this collection is truly global, documenting all 250 countries across every continent. Temporally, the data reflects the state of the world as of 2020, providing a snapshot of the pre-pandemic and early-pandemic landscape. The demographic details extend to population counts, birth rates, and linguistic diversity across the entire human population, ensuring a broad view of the world's social and physical geography.

Who Can Use It
Data Scientists can leverage these records to perform regression analysis and feature engineering for socioeconomic forecasting. International Organisations and NGOs may utilise the merged data to benchmark development goals and health outcomes like infant mortality against regional averages. Furthermore, Geography students and educators can use the rich regional and territorial data to visualise global distributions of population and wealth for educational projects.
