About
This dataset provides a clear overview of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases and deaths worldwide, reported by country or territory. COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which can lead to mild to moderate respiratory illness, though some individuals experience severe illness requiring medical attention. The data highlights that older people and those with underlying medical conditions are more prone to developing serious illness, but anyone can be affected. Understanding the disease and its transmission is crucial for prevention. The dataset is particularly relevant given the emergence of more contagious subvariants like BA.4 and BA.5 of the Omicron variant, which have led to rising global cases despite being milder than the Delta variant.
Columns
- Serial Number: A unique identifying number for each country.
- Country: The name of the country. This column contains 231 unique country entries.
- Total Cases: The aggregate number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the respective country. Values range from 5 to 104 million, with a mean of 2.92 million.
- Total Deaths: The aggregate number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in the respective country. Values range from 1 to 1.13 million, with a mean of 30.1 thousand.
- Total Recovered: The aggregate number of individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 in the respective country. Note that 8% of entries are 'N/A'.
- Active Cases: The aggregate number of active COVID-19 cases in the respective country. Note that 8% of entries are 'N/A'.
- Total Test: The aggregate number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the respective country. Values range from 7.85 thousand to 1.16 billion, with a mean of 32.5 million.
- Population: The total population of the respective country. Values range from 799 to 1.41 billion, with a mean of 28.5 million.
Distribution
The data is provided in a CSV file format, specifically
covid_worldwide.csv
, with a file size of 15.55 kB. It comprises 8 columns, detailing various COVID-19 metrics and demographic information for different countries. The dataset includes 231 records for most fields like Serial Number, Country, Total Cases, and Active Cases. Other fields such as Total Deaths (225 valid records), Total Recovered (229 valid records), Total Test (213 valid records), and Population (228 valid records) have a slightly lower count of valid entries due to some missing values.Usage
This dataset is ideal for:
- Data Analytics: Performing statistical analysis on COVID-19 trends.
- Data Visualization: Creating visual representations of pandemic impact and spread across the globe.
- Exploratory Data Analysis: Gaining initial insights into global health data.
- Public Health Research: Studying the progression and impact of the pandemic.
- Policy Making: Informing decisions related to public health interventions and resource allocation.
Coverage
The dataset offers a global geographic scope, providing reported cases and deaths by country or territory worldwide. While a specific time range is not explicitly detailed, the data's context mentions the emergence and impact of Omicron subvariants (BA.4 and BA.5), indicating coverage during the period when these variants were dominant. The demographic scope is broad, covering general populations, with notes on how older individuals and those with underlying conditions are more susceptible to severe illness.
