About
This dataset provides key information on COVID-19 vaccination efforts across the world, drawing from official data sources collated by the Our World in Data team. It forms part of a larger collection of COVID-19 data that is updated daily throughout the pandemic. The purpose is to make data and research on pressing global issues understandable and readily available, facilitating analysis of vaccination progress and related pandemic metrics.
Columns
- location: The geographical location, typically a country.
- iso_code: The ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 three-letter country code.
- date: The date of observation for the recorded data.
- total_vaccinations: The total count of COVID-19 vaccination doses administered.
- people_vaccinated: The total count of individuals who have received at least one vaccine dose.
- people_fully_vaccinated: The total count of individuals who have received all doses prescribed by the vaccination protocol.
- total_boosters: The total count of COVID-19 vaccination booster doses administered, beyond the initial protocol.
- daily_vaccinations_raw: New COVID-19 vaccination doses administered (only calculated for consecutive days).
- daily_vaccinations: New COVID-19 vaccination doses administered (7-day smoothed). For countries that do not report vaccination data daily, it assumes vaccination changed equally daily over periods of no data, producing a daily series averaged over a rolling 7-day window.
- total_vaccinations_per_hundred: The total number of COVID-19 vaccination doses administered per 100 people in the total population.
- people_vaccinated_per_hundred: The total number of people who have received at least one vaccine dose per 100 people in the total population.
- people_fully_vaccinated_per_hundred: The total number of people who have received all doses prescribed by the vaccination protocol per 100 people in the total population.
- total_boosters_per_hundred: The total number of COVID-19 vaccination booster doses administered per 100 people in the total population.
- daily_vaccinations_per_million: New COVID-19 vaccination doses administered (7-day smoothed) per 1,000,000 people in the total population.
Distribution
The dataset is typically provided in CSV format, with each row representing a unique location and date. The
vaccinations.csv
sample file provided is approximately 2.81 MB in size. It contains 43,439 total records, covering vaccination statistics. The data structure follows one row per location and date, split by country ISO code, including static variables and an array of daily records. The location
and iso_code
fields each have 234 unique values. The date
range in the sample spans from 2nd December 2020 to 28th August 2021.Usage
This dataset is ideal for analysing global COVID-19 vaccination trends, tracking the rollout of vaccines, and understanding the progress of vaccination campaigns worldwide. It can be used for epidemiological studies, public health policy assessment, and general research into the pandemic's trajectory and mitigation efforts.
Coverage
The dataset covers COVID-19 vaccination data for 222 countries, including vaccine names. It is updated daily throughout the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample data provided for vaccinations ranges from December 2020 to August 2021. While this dataset specifically details vaccinations, the wider collection from Our World in Data also includes data on confirmed cases, deaths, hospitalisations, testing, reproduction rates, policy responses, and other variables of interest, allowing for a broad analysis of the pandemic's impact and global reactions.
