About

This dataset provides detailed insights into the global progress of COVID-19 vaccination. It contains daily and cumulative vaccination figures for countries worldwide, collected and regularly updated from the Our World in Data GitHub repository. The primary purpose is to allow users to track immunisation efforts, understand the dynamics of vaccine distribution, and facilitate analysis of vaccination campaigns in relation to other aspects of the pandemic.

Columns

The dataset is primarily composed of data from country_vaccinations.csv, with a second file providing manufacturer-specific data.
country_vaccinations.csv includes:
  • Country: The country for which the vaccination information is provided.
  • Country ISO Code: The unique ISO code identifying the country.
  • Date: The specific date for the data entry. For some dates, only daily vaccinations are available, while for others, cumulative totals are provided.
  • Total number of vaccinations: The absolute sum of all vaccine doses administered in the country.
  • Total number of people vaccinated: The count of individuals who have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
  • Total number of people fully vaccinated: The count of individuals who have completed their full immunisation schedule, typically two doses.
  • Daily vaccinations (raw): The recorded number of vaccinations for a particular date and country.
  • Daily vaccinations: The smoothed number of vaccinations for a particular date and country.
  • Total vaccinations per hundred: The percentage ratio of total vaccinations to the total population up to the given date in the country.
  • Total number of people vaccinated per hundred: The percentage ratio of the population that has received at least one vaccine dose to the total population up to the given date in the country.
  • Total number of people fully vaccinated per hundred: The percentage ratio of the fully immunised population to the total population up to the given date in the country.
  • Number of vaccinations per day: The number of daily vaccinations recorded for that day and country.
  • Daily vaccinations per million: The ratio (in parts per million) of daily vaccinations to the total population for the current date in the country.
  • Vaccines used in the country: A list of vaccine types administered in the country up to the given date.
  • Source name: The origin of the information, such as a national authority or an international organisation.
  • Source website: The URL of the information source.
A second file, country_vaccinations_by_manufacturer.csv, contains:
  • Location: The country.
  • Date: The date.
  • Vaccine: The specific vaccine type.
  • Total number of vaccinations: The total number of vaccinations for the current time and vaccine type.

Distribution

The data is typically provided in CSV file format. The main dataset, country_vaccinations.csv, has a file size of 17.73 MB. It contains approximately 86,500 records. The data is collected and uploaded daily, ensuring up-to-date information on global vaccination efforts. The dataset is structured across two primary files: one detailing country-level vaccination statistics and another providing granular data by vaccine manufacturer.

Usage

This dataset is ideally suited for:
  • Monitoring COVID-19 vaccination progress across different countries and regions.
  • Answering specific questions such as identifying which countries are utilising particular vaccine types, determining the advancement of vaccination programmes globally, or comparing daily vaccination rates both in absolute terms and as a percentage of the total population.
  • Integrating with other related datasets, like COVID-19 World Testing Progress and COVID-19 Variants Worldwide Evolution, to gain deeper insights into the interdependent dynamics of the pandemic, including testing, genomic sequencing, and vaccination campaigns.

Coverage

The dataset provides country-level geographic coverage, encompassing vaccination data from across the world. The time range of the data spans from 2nd December 2020 to 29th March 2022. The scope includes overall population vaccination figures, reflecting the total number of doses administered and the number of people who have received at least one or a full course of vaccination within these nations.
