Columns
The dataset is split across two files, detailing campus metrics and institutional tags:
pride_index.csv includes core metrics:- campus_name: The name of the college or university.
- campus_location: The location of the college or university.
- rating: The Campus Pride Index star rating, ranging from 1 to 5, including half-star increments.
- students: The full-time equivalent student population.
- community_type: The locale classification for the campus, such as "large urban city," "medium city," "small city," "small town," "very small town," or "rural community."
pride_index_tags.csv includes descriptive tags (Boolean/Logical):- Institutional Type: Tags indicating if the campus is public or private, doctoral/research, masters, baccalaureate, or a community college.
- Campus Environment: Tags for residential or nonresidential status, liberal arts, technical institutes, religious affiliation, and military institutes.
- Serving Designation: Tags for historically black colleges/universities (HBCU), Hispanic-serving institutions, Asian-American- and Pacific-Islander-serving institutions, and other minority-serving institutions.
Distribution
The primary file,
pride_index.csv, contains 238 validated records (rows) and measures 15.18 kB in size. The data represents 238 unique college or university names. Ratings span from 1.5 to 5.0, with an average rating of 3.98. The included student population data ranges up to 50,000 full-time equivalent students. The community type is categorised into six unique locales, with 'small city' being the most frequently occurring type (32% of records). The data is expected to be updated annually.Usage
